AMERICAN SOCIETY FOR MICROBIOLOGY

The activities listed below, developed by individuals associated with the Microbial Discovery Workshops, are from original inspiration as well as enhancement of a variety of published sources.  In some cases, pre-existing activities have been reframed with a learner-centered focus (for example, by incorporating  constructivist teaching strategies), or by elaboration of the microbiological content.  Without funding for field testing and replication, demonstration of effectiveness and applicability in a variety of situations is based only upon limited qualitative assessment by individuals. It is premature to consider these a model set of activities.  These exercises are unpublished, and remain the intellectual property of those listed.  MDW participants have used them in K-12 classrooms, but also, by increasing content depth, in college classrooms.
